Hilly.

I shouldn't really have done this race as I still had a stent in my ureter and had only just had the catheter removed . But the plan was to run together and take it easy and I could always quit if there were any problems . I did find it ok , we did take our time and even stopped to take photos , though I found the downhill more uncomfortable . I had had enough by the finish but was delighted to have completed it .

The finish , I had definitely had enough

The race was part of a trail series around Pilsen in the Czech Republic , which is 100km from Prague . I imagined Pilsen to be a small place but it has a population of nearly 200,000 and is the birth place of Pilsner Beer which is quiet a claim to fame . It is also a popular tourist town attracting walkers , cyclists and of course runners to the nearby country side . The Hannah Pilsen Trail Krkavec is the third race in the series the others taking place in April and May and it includes a marathon with 620 m climbing a half marathon which finishes half way round , a 18km race with 380m climbing and also a 11.5 km course . During the day there is also a 1600m and 800 m childrens race . We both love  trail races and this was top class and as well as a medal we got a free bowl of soup and a drink at the end . A t shirt was included and we paid 400 czech krona each for the entry .

This was a great event to enter , around 400 competitors 100% trail and easy to reach from Pilsen . Yeah there are many good trail races but combine this with a city break and its a fun inexpensive holiday with a chance to run and boy does that Czech lager taste good after . Also we were made to feel welcome as one of the few foreign entrants , a bit embarrassing that we came last but I had just come out of hospital . The winning time for the Marathon was 02.55 for the Men and 03:20 for the Women . The 18km was won in 01:04 and 01:19 for Women .

BREXIT CHALLENGE

Before I start I just want to raise the question of Brexit and I will try not to mention it  again , if that's possible! We wouldn't be doing it if not for Brexit .So lets say it was inspired by Brexit . I have learned so much from Brexit that I didn't know before . There are 28 members of the European Union , could I name them all , not a chance . Can I now , yes I think so .There are 19 countries in the Euro Zone , could I name them , no way , can I now errr probably not . I have a fair grasp now of the single market and how it works and I get why trade deals are so complicated and important . In fact I am now more European than I ever was .        So why are we doing it ? Because we can for a start , we were very lucky to sell our business after 25 plus years in 2007 just before the financial crisis of 2007-2008 . We now run a small online retail business from home which gives us a small income , but also bags of free time . Lucky us , b...

Saturday 9th June 2018 Helsinki Half Marathon No 8 Finland

Saturday 9th June 2018 No 8  Richard 01:56.36 Jackie 02:19:02 We knew very little about Finland before we went . I now know it is very expensive the 3rd most expensive country in the EU , nearly everyone speaks English , it has a population of 5.5 million with 1.5 million living in Helsinki .    It was one of the smaller events we had entered with 2211 runners which made registration and getting to the start more relaxed . Also there was less demand for the toilets !! I loved the course it followed the coast line and harbor area along tarmac  paths perfect for running . Everything about this event was well organized , the start and finish areas, the drink stations, and the t-shirt was the best quality yet  .The results were instantaneous and detailed and included a finish line photo. My only problem was I had my first Marathon the weekend after and I definitely let it play on my mind .             ...
