The 13 Arches Trail Half Marathon , organized by Radcliffe AC was Jackie's choice of UK Half Marathon , and what a good choice it was . Run on scenic trails this sold out race didn't disappoint.Only in its second year it has already gained a strong reputation so you must get in early if you want to have a go. With a limit of 300 for the 2016 race it was increased to 400 for 2017 .

“Many runners commented on the friendliness and thoroughness of Radcliffe AC and have said they will be back with their club-mates and friends next year.
We sold out many weeks ago and will be raising the entry limit to keep up with demand"

As you can see from the pictures it was a beautiful Autumn day .

The only draw back is the 5hr flight which was our longest yet but with the whole series of "Line of Duty " downloaded on my phone the time passed quickly . On all our flights I would say 70% to 80 % of passengers are watching films or playing games on phones and tablets and I wouldn't be without mine . A pleasant addition to this trip was the inclusion for the first time of the "Wine Run ". It took place on the Friday and was a 5km route round a wine estate up in the hills . The 30 euro entry included a t- shirt the bus to the start and back and a tour of the winery (including tastings) after . Funchal Half Marathon Sunday January 20th 2019 Portugal No 22 Richard 02:11:47 Jackie 02:25:19 The Funchal Marathon , Half Marathon and Mini Marathon was a fairly small event for a City Marathon attracting about 1400 entries across the 3 distances, but Funchal and Madeira got behind the event to make it into a big success. Full road closures , an early entry of only 15 euros, which included a t-shirt a delicious cake and a small bottle of fortified wine . Nice atmosphere at the finish with entertainment , refreshments and presentation ceremony. There was also plenty of people out on the streets and in the roadside cafe's cheering us on . Madeira was very interesting , it has a population of 255,000 , is well known as the birth place of Cristiano Ronaldo, and the temperature on January 20th was sunny and in the 20's ( a bit warm for running ) . It was very green so I guess there is plenty of rain and it has the largest and biggest...

I have done a blog that covers information about the trips . This is primarily for anyone who fancies trying one .
