The inscription on the medal and t-shirt translates as "nice to see you " . Now in its 13th year the Warsaw Half  Marathon has grown from 1000 runners in 2006 to over 14000 this year . This is a medium sized field in the world of  Big City running events but it attracts some top runners Kenya's Victor Kipchirchir is the event record holder at 60:48 for the men and Pauline Njeru in 69:06 for the women .

This years winner was Kenyan  Erza Kiprotich Sang here are his splits .

This was a superbly organized event , with a great start and finish area . We walked through the Old Town to the start and the early spring weather was spot on . There were still small piles of snow around , leftovers from  what can be a very cold winter in Poland . There were plenty of pacemakers and toilets  and the people in fancy dress created a carnival atmosphere. Could be one I would go back to .

A few pics of the trip

All done

Warsaw has been rebuilt after the war , the Old Town which was flattened has been rebuilt from old pictures to resemble as it was. A lot of building work is still going on and there are plenty of modern buildings interspersed with the old . Chopin is its most famous son and is in evidence everywhere you go including piano playing benches . Its tragic past is hard to get away from and the most powerful image for me was the preserved remains of the Jewish Ghetto still there among the skyscrapers , as reminder not to let the past repeat itself

Saturday 9th June 2018 Helsinki Half Marathon No 8 Finland

Saturday 9th June 2018 No 8  Richard 01:56.36 Jackie 02:19:02 We knew very little about Finland before we went . I now know it is very expensive the 3rd most expensive country in the EU , nearly everyone speaks English , it has a population of 5.5 million with 1.5 million living in Helsinki .    It was one of the smaller events we had entered with 2211 runners which made registration and getting to the start more relaxed . Also there was less demand for the toilets !! I loved the course it followed the coast line and harbor area along tarmac  paths perfect for running . Everything about this event was well organized , the start and finish areas, the drink stations, and the t-shirt was the best quality yet  .The results were instantaneous and detailed and included a finish line photo. My only problem was I had my first Marathon the weekend after and I definitely let it play on my mind .                                         RESULTS FOR RICHARD MASON location time s

Sunday 9th September 2018 No 12  Richard 01:55:19 Jackie 02:15:22 This was a big event for Tallinn and Estonia as it was taking place in the centenary year of the creation of the Republic of Estonia . One hundred years of the Republic of Estonia "On February 24, 2018, one hundred years passed from the proclamation of Estonia as an independent, democratic republic. This is undoubtedly one of the most important and greatest milestones in our history with great meaning for us all. The centenary is a celebration for everyone and the perfect opportunity for us to join our efforts towards building a better future together. " The Marathon ,Half Marathon 10km and 5km were set to enjoy the largest participation event in Estonia's 100 year history .
