To fit all 28 half marathons in before the 1st April 2019 it has been necessary to look beyond the big city runs and use the internet to find smaller more local events . We came up with a gem in Denmark the "Skovloberen" trail race . It was organized by a company called Sporti.dk who run events in Denmark and Norway which as well as running include bike races , triathlon ,and even hunting ,skiing and sailing .

The event took place in Hvalso a small town a forty minute train ride from Copenhagen Central station . We were staying in Copenhagen and with a midday start we caught the train in the morning . There are two trains an hour and the race headquarters was a five minute walk from the station .
The race exclusively takes place on forest roads in the Mid-Zealandic forests which are part of the national park Skjoldungernes Land . The route takes you to the highest point in Zealand (125m) and at the top there is a memorial stone for fallen members of the Danish Resistance Movement during World War 11 . If you need a break from asphalt roads and polluted city air Skovloberen is definitely for you as you pass small lakes and run through a mixture of hardwood and coniferous forests. There are four distances so something for everyone 5km a quarter marathon half marathon and full marathon (two loops of the half marathon)
There were 96 entrants for the 5km 145 for the quarter marathon 194 for the half marathon and 58 for the full marathon 99% from Denmark a couple from Sweden and a couple from the UK . The organizers were delighted to see us and interested to know how we had found out about it ( easy with the internet!) . They even wanted to interview Jackie before the race but she declined using a trip to the loo as an excuse .
The course was well marshaled and you couldn't get lost but it was not easy, on reaching the high point I was expecting an easier run , but it was undulating to the finish . I pushed myself in this race as I wanted to finish in under 2 hrs but I fell short by 56 seconds .
We both loved this race and Copenhagen was great , I think its one we will do again . The entry fee for the half was 200 dk (just over £20.00) and a t shirt 160 dk.
